Submissions

JECES only publishes original contributions in German or English that adhere to the code of conduct for good scientific practice and contain substantial new insights on issues relevant to the history of East Central Europe. Contributions on a very narrow question may appear as miscellanea of 30,000–40,000 characters (without spaces; incl. footnotes). Full articles typically comprise 50,000–60,000 characters. If the underlying sources and the scope of a subject warrant it, contributions may be as long as up to 100,000 characters. Black and white or color illustrations and figures can be inserted in the text. The author is responsible for acquiring the necessary rights to the illustrations (both for the print and online versions). The journal is published in print form and online in open access. The authors do not pay any publication fees.

The JECES style is available here. It is sufficient, if the footnotes are reformatted according to JECES guidelines after an article has been cleared for publication in the peer review process.

Submission

Authors are invited to send manuscripts in .docx or .rtf format to jeces-submission@herder-institut.de. The editors-in-chief and the managing editor will conduct an initial assessment of all articles submitted. Should they decide that an article does not fall within the realm of the focus and scope of JECES, the managing editor will inform the author of the article’s rejection. If the editors-in-chief consider some revision work necessary before the paper can advance to peer review, the managing editor will inform the author about these suggestions. After the author has revised the text according to the comments, the managing editor will check if it is ready for peer review. Only original contributions that adhere to the rules of research integrity and fall within the focus and scope of JECES can be forwarded for the double-blind peer review.
